A very pleasant, mainly flat walk that includes coast, countryside, lanes, wooded denes and an old railway path. All in all a nice walk that is suitable for the whole family.
The walk starts from the large car park just above the popular Crimdon Beach. Leaving the car park, the route passes through the outfall of Crimdon Dene before crossing over the coastal railway line at the former Hart Station. A little lane- and field-walking then follows before the route passes through the churchyard of the lovely old Saxon church in Hart Village. From Hart the walk follows a quiet surfaced lane for a little under a mile before once again taking to the fields on the route to the hamlet of Monk Hesleden, passing through the steep valleys of two branches of the densely wooded Hesleden Dene on the way. A short lane-walk follows before intersecting the Haswell to Hart Countryside Walk, a former railway line. The line re-emerges at the railway footbridge at Hart Station that was crossed on the outward section. From here the walker returns to Crimdon Dene, where the route takes a slightly different but very pleasant ramble back to the car park through the Dene Nature Reserve.
