From Cromford, the village that Richard Arkwright made famous, the route passes a cul-de-sac of cotton weavers' cottages where the workers operated cotton machines in the attics. Onward through glorious woods, passing under the Cromford Incline that brought mineral down from quarries above by rail to waiting barges below in the Cromford Canal. The walk then drops down an ancient pack-horse route to cross the A6 trunk road and come to the canal where there is a museum and small shop for ices, biscuits, sweets or drinks. Public toilets and picnic tables are found at the canalside. From here we return along a path on the opposite side of the valley, trough lovely woods full of birdsong and wildlife. The views are fantastic from this side down to the A6, especially if you are walking it on a bank holiday and can look down on the traffic chaos from your peaceful perch.

first walk i've done from your web site , walk and directions fantastic. only problem was with the stile at point 13 it had been blocked by a tied "gate" that couldn't be undone so had to be climbed over
