Unusually for a walk in Gran Canaria, this walk is not especially taxing. The first few miles are along a more or less level forest track with enough trees to keep you cool, but not so many that you can't enjoy the superb mountain views. There is then a stretch of perhaps three-quarters of a mile that is steep and stony, requiring concentration. We were pleased when it ended but it wasn't too demanding, even for one with arthritic knees. After the steep stretch ends, the route is on easy tracks, country lanes and roads in the small town of San Bartolomé.

The first half of the walk is reasonably shady but the second half is in the sun, so be prepared with water and sunscreen. Even in November the path in front of the rock faces can feel very warm.
