The main climb is at the start. After gaining the height, there is a gradual drop as you walk through the valley to reach the Grwyne Fechan. The views are lovely and the return down the valley is along Macnamara's Road. Mr Macmanara was a local squire, a member of the local "Hellfire Club" and this road was built for him to visit his mistress, for whom he had built a residence, The Hermitage, now a ruin passed on the return route.
