The villages we pass through are Skewsby and Scackleton. The City of Troy turf maze is at the side of the lane north of Skewsby and gives added interest to the walk. This is believed to be one of only eight surviving labyrinth turf mazes in England today. There is little else to say except this is a lovely walk in unspoilt countryside on quiet paths, tracks, lanes and in woodland. This walk was revisited by the contributor and rewritten and re-photographed midweek in August 2024. No other person was seen on the walk in over three hours, other than one man gardening in Scackleton, it was so pastorally quiet.

There are two Dalby locations in North Yorkshire, ensure sat nav uses the York one. We walked this route 12 July 2024 and would point out several issues. Some of the route was very overgrown and difficult to walk through. Several gates have been replaced and at number 6 the bridge has been updated. Number 7 has been diverted with a notice indicating a changed route. There were at least 2 'Beware of the bull' signs on route (no bull in the field during our walk). At 10 the gorse was not passable so you can walk below in parallel to the top of the field below the gorse. Although the scenery was great this is not a walk I would recommend for a group and our small group would not have walked it if we had known the issues in advance.

A great walk through fields woodland and farms. Many of the paths are overgrown with brambles which made it difficult to negotiate. Don't wear shorts! Took longer than the stated time because of terrain. The wicker bull is no longer there (farmer said it had disintegrated).
