Starting high up on the Drumochter Pass, this walk takes you along the side of Loch Garry on the ancient trackway to Loch Rannoch. The walk will require two vehicles and although there is negligible height climb, it remains a committing walk through wild terrain where weather can be changeable and snow covering as late as April or May is possible. Winter navigation skills will be necessary, but crampons and ice axes should not be needed. As the walk is through deer country, walkers should check with the estate about access during the shooting season. Deer were abundant when we did the walk. Seven kilometres in is the estate-maintained bothy at Duinish. I have graded this as a mountain challenge because of the length and remote terrain crossed.
