A pleasant walk for all seasons, it starts at the beautiful village of Dalton-le-Dale and walks through the dale to reach the old mining villages of Dawdon and Dalton, retracing some of the history of the area. It then follows the old railway line, now a cycleway, alongside the golf course with tremendous views back over towards the sea and the nearby towns of Sunderland and South Shields, returning across country to the village of Dalton-le-Dale.
