Darlington - Low Coniscliffe - High Coniscliffe - Piercebridge

Except for one very short ascent this is an entirely flat, linear walk suitable for the whole family, starting from the outskirts of Darlington and following the route of the River Tees upstream. The riverside path alternates between woods and open, grassy fields. During the early part of the walk the route passes through the Broken Scar area of the town with its scenic weir and picnic area. From here the route briefly leaves the river to intersect the small village of Low Coniscliffe. A long section then follows where the path closely tracks the meandering river before rising to the attractive village of High Coniscliffe. The final section of the route returns to the river for a short walk through woods and fields before arriving at ancient Piercebridge with its extensive Roman fort remains.
