The walk initially follows the railway path beside the Edinburgh - Glasgow via Bathgate line. It then crosses over and follows the path towards Dechmont Village. Just before the M8 motorway, it turns up through the wood, near the summit of Deer Hill. On leaving the wood, the summit of Dechmont Law is visible. Good views from a summit only 217m high are possible because of the low-lying nature of much of the surrounding countryside. Finally, well-made paths are followed back to the starting point at Livingston North.
