The walk starts in the small village of Diggle, near to the rail and canal tunnels under the Pennines between Greater Manchester and Yorkshire. It climbs out of Diggle via rural roads and tracks, passing through two small hamlets, to a track along the ridge of a hill which divides two valleys. It follows the track down to the village of Dobcross before dropping down to the canal. It then climbs out of the valley through the eastern side of Uppermill via rural roads and tracks, passing through another hamlet before reaching the second high point of the walk. It then drops down towards the start point via country lanes and footpaths to pass through another hamlet before crossing some fields to reach the site of an old mill. It crosses a stream and some fields before following some rural lanes back to the start point, returning through the oldest part of Diggle. The height gain ensures some fabulous views down some of the valleys of Saddleworth. There are two high points on this walk.
