*This great walk was originally devised and submitted to Walkingworld by Tom Heydon.*
This is a circular walk starting at the Dinton Park car park. You will walk north-eastwards to join the old Salisbury to Shaftsbury Ox Drive (now the Monarch's Way) before turning south over to the picturesque village of Teffont Magna and back to Dinton. On this walk you will pass through several wooded areas and enjoy great views from the high ground. It also takes in several lakes, as well as churches in both Teffont Magna and Dinton. Your path will pass through the National Trust parkland in front of Philipps House. There is plenty of wildlife along the way.
St Mary The Virgin Church, Dinton, dates from the early 13th Century. The remnants of the steps and a socket for a stone cross can be found in the churchyard. Are these missing bits to be found in the Teffont Magna Church? Teffont Magna Church is late 13th Century, with fragments of an earlier Saxon cross-shaft embedded in the walls. It also has some medieval ships scratched on the door jambs of the south doorway.
The main rooms of the ground floor of Phillips House are open to the public, but restricted to certain days and times; check on 01985 - 843600 before the visit. Dinton Park is open for access all year.
