A quiet walk through pasture and Dipton Woods on the south slopes of the Derwent Valley in North Durham. The walk begins and ends in the old colliery village of Dipton. The woodland is mainly deciduous, with one short section of coniferous plantation. Deer and both red and grey squirrels may be seen.

Further to the earlier comment. The trees are now cleared, there is a steep part down to the river however but its quite accessible and rough wooden steps make it a bit easier. Overall a beautiful quiet walk in stunning scenery, there were lots of birds to be seen and heard including a Kingfisher which flashed by. 13/2/23

Aug 2007 - second part of walk along river is now a little harder with trees fallen & path a little subsided in places but still well worth the effort.
