This is quite a tough walk in parts, as there are no real paths on the access land. On the other hand, farm tracks are used for the start and for all of the descent. Expect boggy ground higher up with the exception of the ridge - and few other walkers.

Navigation is easy until you leave the forest fence for the ridge, a point where poor conditions will make demands upon your navigational skills. On the day that I recorded the walk there was a hailstorm followed by mist, but a compass and the old fenceposts that I mention in the text, kept us on course; it shows though, how even in summer you need to be prepared on these lower hills of Snowdonia.

10/6/2011 - Rhodri Thomas

Walked on October 5/2011 when visibility was 50metres, with driving rain and wind speed 50+mph. Waypoints are as described, though some new fencing and stiles have been put in place. Navigation after Waypoint 18 proved taxing in the conditions prevailing. Despite a dry summer, the ground was waterlogged in many places and gaiters are essential. I would not recommend anyone to undertake this walk in the conditions prevailing on 5/10/11 unless they have excellent navigational skills.
