The walk starts close to the Dowally craft shop and restaurant, 8km north of Dunkeld. Passing through the small hamlet of Dowally, the tree-lined footpath rises for about 1.5km before reaching an almost level track leading south-east past Dowally Loch and Rotmell Loch to reach Mill Dam. The path circles the loch and climbs gradually over a shoulder of Deuchary Hill to reach Loch Ordie. A wide Land-Rover track provides a gentle descent back to Dowally. Wildlife on the route includes deer and curlew on the moor and waterbirds and ospreys over the lochs.

Currently (June 2011) a sign asks you not to park near a field gate just across the bridge at Dowally - still plenty space to park though! Once away from the A9 and the hydro electric construction work at Dowally this is a very pleasant walk which is well described. it is on nicely graded estate roads - many of which are overgrown to give a grassy surface. You have to appreciate the skill of the men who created these tracks - building embankements and creating wonderfully finished stone bridges throughout the walk.
