For points of interest and historic notes see in 'additional information'. This is a very enjoyable walk mostly beside the River Ouse, along the long-distance path, Fen Rivers Way. There are extensive views across the fenland. The route also goes through the old market town of Downham Market and along tracks and field edges. All the paths are good and well-signed. It can be shortened to six miles. The Heron Inn, at Stowbridge halfway round, serves good food.
