The walk starts close to Dronfield Station, at the bottom of Church Street. Almost immediately a grassy bank leads to a very direct footpath, which is followed to a bridge over the A61. A narrow path, well-used by local dog-walkers and sponsored by the Rotary Club, leads to open country. There are a couple of very short arable field crossings, but then a long, descending and pretty bridleway takes the route down to Common Side. The return is close to fishing lakes, then crosses the A61 on a high bridge, before skirting a golf course and returning to the town centre.
