The walk begins at the birthplace and childhood home of pioneer conservationist John Muir at 126 High Street, now a museum celebrating his life and work. The route samples a couple of miles of clifftop path on the long-distance trail named in Muir's memory before returning directly to the lively little port of Dunbar, but with several opportunities to divert back onto the John Muir Way if you prefer.

The John Muir Way is one of 'Scotland's Great Trails'. This short section is accorded 'moderate' status only because there are plenty of steps both up and down on the early part of the route.

Information for Dog Owners: the walk is not considered ideal for dogs, as it is partly along clifftop paths with several flights of steps.
