This flat walk goes through some woodland but is mostly across open dunes, much of it on land administered by Natural England or by Sefton Council as a nature reserve. As it is sandy, the going is a little slower than you might expect and a time allowance should be made for this. The route is extremely well-marked by both the above bodies and indeed, would be very difficult to follow were it not.

We did this walk today with three Labradors, they loved it and so did we. Rather than catch the train back to Freshfield we took a right turn when we could see the Pontins holiday site but hadn't quite reached it and aimed for the woods, so avoiding the road. We then followed the path that runs parallel with the trainline which took us back to the golf course and Freshfield station carpark. This made the walk 7.5 miles.
