This is a proper day's walking in the hills. The village of Dunsop Bridge is typical for the area, provides the starting point and has good car parking facilities. Bus services also operate but details are unknown.

An easy start to the walk takes you into the hills along a well-made track along a babbling river – loads of places to cool off in hot weather. The track then enters into the hills proper, heading round the headland of Costy Clough before reaching the farmstead at Whitendale.

From Whitendale this walk meets the big hills, heading steeply up onto the moorland and down into Brennand farmstead, before rising steeply again up Ouster Rake, quickly climbing 250 metres. The track then winds down through the Trough of Bowland before reaching the return stretch, an easy but long finish to the walk.

This is one of those walks that makes you feel alive at the end.

This walk certainly blew the cobwebs away, particularly the climb up from Brennand Farm! Be wary of the path crossing the waterfall earlier on - very slippery and it resulted in my GPS being submerged in the stream. Note that stiles from Whitendale have been replaced by gates in several places. It's a shame there was so much road walking upon reaching the Trough -an alternative would be to cross the bridge at Langden Brook and follow the river to Hareden and then rejoining the road - just an idea!
