This is only a short walk but it is one of the most agreeable in an area noted for charming walks. The scenery is outstanding and with a few short exceptions, the going is good, although the exceptions are very boggy. Even the one ascent is not overly strenuous. It is possible to make this into quite a tough walk by joining Walk 4489 via the ladder-stile at Waymark 11.

A short walk maybe, but a great one! Thorneyholme Hall brought back memories of my wedding night, when it was a hotel! It was nice to reminisce and the first time I've been back in over twenty years! After WP5 I encountered Mossthwaite, where two very vociferous game birds with reddish heads sounded the most distinctive alarm calls I have ever heard. This set off a pack of hounds caged in an outbuilding so the air was filled with a cacophony of all things agitated! I would love to know what the birds were - they walked upright, were greyish brown in colour apart from a reddish head. At WP10 I stopped for a drink and a sandwich and surveyed the scene. Not a soul anywhere. Incredible. If you have a spare two and a half hours I really recommend this walk!
