The walk starts at the car park for Dunwood Park in the town of Shaw and Crompton. You have a short but steep climb to reach part of The Oldham Way, which is followed along farm tracks and across fields. It leaves The Oldham Way to follow a small section of The Rochdale Way before crossing fields and farm tracks to reach the village of Newhey. You then follow a few rural roads to reach a farm track. You follow the farm track uphill past a farm before entering open countryside. You follow paths through fields to reach open moorland (the edge of Crompton Moor) before dropping down to the remains of a local quarry. This is where the waterfall may be seen, dependent on rainfall in previous days or weeks. After leaving the quarry you follow tracks across more open countryside before entering the park. You follow a path through the park to the start point. It follows parts of the Crompton Circuit as well as the two ways mentioned above. There are two high points on this walk. There are toilets and a café at Dunwood Park near the start of the walk. There are no other toilets.
