This is the sixth in a series of easy walks in and around the beautiful University city of Durham that takes advantage of the park-and-ride facilities located around the city. The intention is to park up at the Belmont Park-and-Ride, catch the shuttle bus into the city and walk back to the park-and-ride car park.

The walk starts from the Leazes Bowl bus stop on Milburngate Bridge and passes through the Market Place on the way up to the hugely impressive Cathedral and Castle. Having passed through the Cathedral complex the route heads down to the river for a great riverside walk following much of the perimeter of the Durham Peninsular, before rising up into Pelaw Wood where there are wonderful views looking back across the city. The route then leaves the wood to arrive onto a ridge that is the Gilesgate area of the city before descending once again back at the River Wear. Riverside walking follows through fields and woods before the route leaves the river for a little field and pavement walking that returns the walker back to the P&R car park at Belmont.
