This walk starts and finishes in the tiny clachan of Durisdeer, by the unusual 1699 church with its interesting interior. You take an ancient track into the hills and divert to visit the site of a Roman fortlet, one of a chain of such structures, each designed to hold some twenty to thirty soldiers. Resuming on the track, you then climb Durisdeer Hill, yielding splendid panoramic views over the surrounding hilly countryside. A gradual descent on a good track along Durisdeer Rig's broad back soon brings the village into sight again.

An absolute must whilst you are in the vicinity, is a visit to nearby Morton Castle in its romantic setting, grid ref 890991 and see Walk 3928. Directions from Durisdeer are in 'Additional Information'.
