Parking near the church at Earl Sterndale, the route goes gradually uphill to follow a rough track along the clifftop above Hindlow and Buxton Quarries. Great views will be had down into these quarries. Looking the other way will be seen the mountain-like range of Chrome Hill and Parkhouse Hill. The views are extensive all round. Eventually the route goes down the narrow but pretty Dowel Dale. Then it goes off left up the only really steep portion of the walk. This is only 100 yards upward, so it isn't too bad to tackle. At the top, Earl Sterndale will be seen in the distance where the end of the walk and possibly a spot of refreshment, could be had at the basic, but unusual Quiet Woman Pub in the village (if open).

This is a good short walk in lovely country which can easily be done on a weekend morning or afternoon. Excellent directions as usual so thanks Ray. The quarries look like something out of James Bond but fascinating. And of course there is the cafe awaiting you in Longnor - 2-3 minutes drive away at the end - with its fantastic tea cakes.
