This is a lovely circular walk with a bit of everything - open downland with superb views, quiet forests with a good chance of seeing deer, with a gentle climb to the magnificent South Downs Way. The walk starts from the village hall car park at East Dean, a most friendly village, opposite the delightful Star and Garter, where you will receive a warm welcome on your return. There are a few stiles at the beginning and end of the walk, which can be avoided if you'd rather use the roads. This is a good all-year-round walk, as the route is mainly along firm tracks with just one farmyard to negotiate and no roadwork. My dog managed all of the gates and stiles with ease and thoroughly enjoyed himself!

Walked this walk today and probably did at least 1.5 miles more than we should have done, as at point 8 there was no sign saying that it was the South Downs way, only signs saying 'restricted way', which we now assume have replaced the 'No Motor Vehicles' ones mentioned in the walk details.

We did this walk yesterday - very enjoyable though we did get into a bit of a pickle at a couple of points. However, still a really good walk and would do it again!

Did this walk today and it was most enjoyable. Also had lunch at the Star and Garter which was also very good. The track into the farmyard (point 5) was a bit overgrown so we missed the exit, but corrected that at the end of the field.

Did this walk on 9th June. Another fine offering from Sylvia. However, could I make one small observation. The photo and description of waymark 10 do not marry up with the route map/co-ordinates. I reckon it's about 100m out and maybe Sylvia should check this out to avoid confusion.
