East Lomond - West Lomond - Ballo Reservoir - East Lomond limekilns

The walk visits the tops of East Lomond and West Lomond, although the start is from a car park not far from the summit of East Lomond. Far-ranging 360-degree views are possible from both summits. There is historical, archaeological and environmental interest all the way and additional information can be accessed on line. The return from West Lomond via Little Ballo and Ballo Reservoir leads to a final sector via an old location of limekilns with information boards, followed by a gentle walk back to the start. Red grouse, geese and other moorland birds are all present at appropriate seasons.

The village of Falkland is well worth a visit with historic palace and cafes.

A highly enjoyable walk. I would emphasise that the descents from both hills are very steep and should be negotiated with care - especially in damp conditions! I did not see a marker post on the ridge after waymark 10 and got offline too far east as the ground undulates. I would suggest taking a bearing on the Limekilns which would lead you in the right direction. There is not really a path till you reach the gate at waymark 11.
