This route starts at a small car park on the edge of Newton Heath. It follows a disused railway to reach a local park. It continues around the edge of the park and alongside a river before exiting to reach a canal. The canal is followed upstream into Droylsden, Tameside. There is then a short section through a residential area to reach a second park. After crossing the park you follow a woodland path to reach Clayton Vale and the River Medlock. The river is followed downstream before a short climb back to the start point. The route along the canal shows a mixture of architectural styles. The area around Clayton Vale is popular with cyclists. There are two dedicated cycle areas, one near the start and one in Philips Park. Some of the paths are not shown on the map, especially in the parks, but are clear on the ground.
