This walk was originally contributed by James Dunn and has now been taken over and redesigned by Fiona Dick. Our thanks to both of them for all their hard work. The walk is all on well-used paths and tracks, so you should be prepared to share the way both with other walkers, often in groups, and with mountain bikers. Some of the paths are stony and uneven underfoot, so some form of ankle support is advisable. Sections can be muddy, not to say downright boggy, after rain and the descent into Green Cleuch (just before Step 9) is quite steep and on a narrow path. But the views across the reservoirs and over the Firth are well worth it.

We had no problem with navigation on this today - very easy to follow. Maybe the recent updates have helped. Only took us 2 hours 40 mins though! We're not fantastically energetic walkers, but we did overtake a couple of people, so who knows. The descent into Green Cleuch (step 8) is quite steep on a narrow path with loose stones. Possibly not suitable for small children or those not too steady on their feet, but otherwise the going was quite straightforward. Enjoyed it.

Really struggled with the navigation on this walk I'm afraid, even though I'm fairly familiar with the Pentland Hills.
