This walk takes in some of the less well-walked areas of Staffordshire between the Dove and Churnet Valleys and close to the Weaver Hills. There are plenty of paths and some interesting areas. Much of the route follows field-paths and tracks, with some sections through mature mixed woodland. Some paths on the return route, particularly around Stanton, can be tricky to find; if you follow the guide you should find them more easily than I did.
There are a few areas where my intended route had to be changed due to missing stiles and overgrown paths. Suitable alternative paths were found without adding to the distance.
The pub used on this walk is the Dog & Partridge in Swinscoe. This is a motel and restaurant too and prices are a little higher than most village pubs. The menu is varied and good-value, with generous portions. They offer a couple of interesting beers at inflated prices. I find prices here are around 20% more than most pubs for the same beers. Outside there is a lawned beer-garden accessible through the bar area, though not for consumption of your own food.
