The fields in this part of the world are heavy when wet and so are tedious to cross to say the very least, so this represents an alternative route, largely on tarmac. These lanes are very quiet and conceivably, you could walk the route without encountering a vehicle other than the crossings of the A143, which seems never to be quiet. Ellingham Mill is a profusion of flowers in spring and summer, but attractive as a building at any time. The River Waveney is close by and a lovely canoe trail from Bungay ends here at a custom-built landing. Bungay is worth a detour as a quaint market town with a castle, river and lots of tea shops.
