Elsenham is on the main railway line between London Liverpool Street and Cambridge. In fact the walk starts either from its railway station or its nearby car park. You soon enter farmland and progress to the attractive little village of Henham. Here you pass ponds all along the main street and a farm which has all the appearance of being traditionally British, with its duckpond etc, but you then turn a corner to find a field inhabited by llamas! They will be at least as curious to see you as you are to see them! From here you pass on along a pleasant and lengthy green lane (Chickney Lane). Leaving this, you walk through a wood. Then after more farmland you walk through the tiny village of Plegdon Green. The sound of the name is reminiscent of Thomas Hardy, but there is no apparent connection. There are, however, a number of quaint and beautiful cottages in the village. More farmland walking brings you back to Elsenham and finally the station, or across the level-crossing to the car park.
