From the village, cross the fields to Eastby then access the moors, walking over to Upper Barden Reservoir, with great views on the way. Regain the main bridleway and head west, noting that there are two escape routes back to Embsay along the top. Drop down to the valley and follow round back to Embsay.

Although we enjoyed the walk up till waypoint 15 the information was very sketchy. We do realise that the instructions should be used in conjunction with a map however it would have been easier just to use the OS map. The section on the road is covered with the comment 'take care'. Be aware this section is over a mile long on a very busy road with traffic passing very close to walkers and travelling well in excess of 50/60 MPH and on weekdays there is also heavy traffic from the nearby quarry, there are also a number of blind bends This section in our view is downright dangerous and should not be included in any type of walk. In our opinion the whole walk needs re-writing and re-checking as it could be very enjoyable. We measured the walk at 12 and a half miles which is way over what is stated.
