Etherow Country Park, Compstall - River Goyt - Peak Forest Aqueduct

This is a short walk of some charm, mostly along the banks of the River Goyt or the High Peak Canal. It is based on Etherow Country Park, which has basic facilities and offers the opportunity of further strolling with the aid of the map available in the visitor centre.

August 2019. The river bank has given way just before you reach Waypoint 16 where a sign says that it will be closed for six months. Although a path goes up to the left just before the closure I would not recommend it as it is extremely steep and slippery, a hazardous route that needs a lot of attention. I would wait until the riverside path is open again. Jim Grindle.

Lovely tea room at WM09. Turn left and the tea room is on your left. Picnic tables outside so dogs are welcome.

Good walk with dogs. Plenty of room to run free.
