A quite demanding walk, keeping mostly to field and moorland paths. All paths are easy to find and stiles were present when last walked. The outward route offers several areas with superb views as descending into the valley from Eyam Moor to Stoke Ford. The return is easier walking, being mostly level riverside paths, with a short climb along concessionary paths and passing a walled enclosure of plague graves now tended by the National Trust.
The pub used in this walk is the Plough at Leadmill on the outskirts of Hathersage, close to the bridge over the River Derwent. They offer a good-value menu at reasonable prices, though the pub is popular and can be very busy. Also it has a good choice of hand-pulled beers on offer. Outside there is a large beer-garden; if ordering food to eat outside make sure you get the wooden spoon to identify your order.
