Featuring the river Dee this walk starts at Farndon Bridge, (photo on the right) and the river follows the Welsh border. It is a circular walk and best done when there are leaves on the trees as it will be a bit drab in winter and muddy in parts. Most - but not all - of the paths are well used and easy to follow and the gates and the single stile are in good order. Take care navigating the first few footpaths as there are several in this popular locality that are not marked on the map. Most of the return route is along the river bank and includes instructions for walkers from moored river boats.
The route is fairly level and suitable for teenagers, senior citizens and anyone in-between. Suitable footwear will be anything flat soled will but boots will be best, especially in winter, and there should be no problems for anyone wearing shorts in summer. It is excellent for dogs, but hopeless for wheelchairs & buggies and unfortunately there are no refreshments. However you will reach a few picnic tables, bench seats and a toilet block near the old bridge at the end of the walk. There is also a hotel near the bridge where the walk starts and finishes. If you book in advance you should be able to get a good meal and a drink; an excellent finish to a good walk. Tel. 01829 270376. A short distance uphill from the hotel is a DIY store, and beyond it is a large pharmacy, haberdashery, butcher, newsagent and confectioner, café, and a hairdresser.
