Fenny Stratford – Fenny Lock – Grand Union Canal – Caldecotte Lake
This walk is on the southern edge of Milton Keynes and part rural, part urban. The first section follows the River Ouzel, which rises as a chalk stream near Dunstable Downs and flows through Milton Keynes to join the Ouse at Newport Pagnell. After passing through the small town of Fenny Stratford via a pleasant green area, a recreation ground and a short section of town road, we pick up The Grand Union Canal at Fenny Lock and follow it for just over 0.75 of a mile before heading to Caldecotte Lake, built in 1982 as a balancing lake, designed to prevent the Ouzel from flooding the southern part of Milton Keynes. Walking, cycling and of course water sports, are all popular and there is a children's play area close to the windmill. Lovely views over the lake to The Greensands Ridge are on the left and the River Ouzel runs on your right. The Grand Union Canal then takes you back to Manor Fields.
