An easy, mildly undulating walk through the fields, lanes, villages and along a former mineral railway line in this former coalmining area of mid-east Durham.
From Fishburn the walk heads north through fields and lanes with a little road-walking, before intersecting an old mineral railway line that changes the direction of the walk to the east, to pass through the village of Trimdon Grange. From here the route then turns south through fields to cross the fledgling River Skerne and arrive at Trimdon Village. A long section of walking on farm tracks then leads the walker to intersect the ancient Salters Lane, a route used by itinerant traders. The lane heads west to return to Fishburn.
