I usually travel up to Scotland with work or on holiday three or four times a year and I usually find somewhere to break the journey for an hour or so. Often it's here at Branxton and even more so now that the Flodden Trust has established a battlefield trail. I've been fascinated by the Battle of Flodden Field fought around this small border village for many years; and living near to Bosworth Field, as I do, I have often been struck by the many links and similarities. Thomas Howard, English Commander at Flodden was wounded fighting for Richard at Bosworth, for example and just as Richard found death leading his men at Bosworth, so James, King of Scotland found death here at Flodden. So as 2013 marks 500 years since this decisive though often forgotten battle was fought, it seems appropriate to put the walk firmly on the map.
The intention is to produce a downloadable guide to the battle and also a longer walk covering the wider battlefield (Flowers o' the Forest 2: Flodden Long Walk).
