The plan is to start at Formby Station, go down the road in the direction of the sea and have a look at the church and the new squirrel-viewing area before picking up the track across open grassland. At the end of the woodland section the road is followed directly to Freshfield Station for a train back; they run every fifteen minutes. The route is pretty flat, although there are two slopes which I am not qualified to assess. The council has marked the route as suitable for wheelchairs, so I assume that they are considered accessible.

Nice walk completed in April 2015. The start is a bit confusing, I should have printed out the comments about climbing the steps from the car park. At waypoint 5 we went straight on over the sand dunes to the sea and walked north along the coast. we then went up the trail marked as the nicotine track and picked up the route at waypoint 8. Did not see any squirrels on the walk, shame. Had some refreshments at the Victoria cafe across the road from Freshwater fields railway station. Single train ticket back to Formby was £1.75 for Adult.

Enjoyed this walk although not many squirrels about this time. Wanted to have a look at the Sefton Coastal Path having just completed, in stages, the 69 miles of the Lancashire Coastal Way. Think it is worth doing and Jim has three walks to help. Found his instructions to get to Waymark 3 on this a bit confusing. All you have to do from the station platform is climb the steps to the entrance, turn right and keep going!
