The walk follows the railway line to a crossing and then goes through a golf course. An extensive plantation of Corsican pine is entered on a track leading to the beach. You turn into the National Trust property and through the woods again before a short road-walk to the station.

Mike has been wanting to visit the red squirrel sanctuary and we combined it with this walk which took us through lovely woods, across sand dunes and along the beach before entering the reserve. Quite short so still gave us plenty of time to walk around the reserve and see the squirrels - and he wasn't disappointed!! Well worth a visit and, if you are on foot, entrance is free! Train service every 15 minutes from Southport or Liverpool. We took the X2 bus to Birkdale, hourly service from Preston then picked up this train.
