This route is labelled 'easy' because it is mainly level, with no 'rough walking' and no stiles. It is almost entirely along good woodland paths and tracks or minor roads, with an optional venture onto the beach at Sandgreen.

From the attractive little town of Gatehouse of Fleet, the walk passes through woods then parkland to Cally Palace Hotel. Passing under the A75, the route proceeds along a tree-lined track with fine views across Fleet Bay to reach the tiny resort settlement of Sandgreen. Passing along the beach, the minor road (which can be busy at times) is taken to Girthon and beyond. A footpath leads into the woods and the walk reaches Cally Gardens. Return is made along other paths through Cally Woods.

Places of refreshment abound in Gatehouse, whilst a small shop, probably seasonal, caters to the caravan community at Sandgreen.

An unmissable walk. Taking you from the town through the woods down to the beach. Amazing bluebells in the spring.
