A very varied walk near Tomintoul (335m) on the way between Grantown-on-Spey and Cock Bridge. The paths include those through coniferous woods, farm tracks and higher heather moorland tracks and offer good views all the way, particularly into Glen Avon. Because of the variety of habitats - riverside, farmland, woodland and moorland - there is quite a variety of animals and birds (birds of prey include sparrowhawk, kestrel and buzzard).

Since the walk climbs to over 400m, bad-weather clothing should be carried and boots are advised.

Tomintoul has refreshments, shops, etc. This is a good family walk, with dog.
