This walk starts at a wooded car park close to a visitor centre for Glen Tanar Estate. It passes through pastoral scenery before entering a section of forestry plantations. After that it continues close by a stream for a large part of the route. Many fine specimens of Scots pine are found growing naturally through a carpet of heather and bracken. These trees are rare remnants of the old Caldonian pine forest which once covered the whole area. After walking past a small fishing loch, the path skirts the edge of some fields along the side of the River Tanar, before returning to the car park.
