Goathland is a wonderful location from which to start any walk and there are several in and around the immediate area. This one starts in the middle of the village, then runs adjacent with a small part of the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway line for about 1¼ miles, under the line and up the hill, turning back along the other side of the track and veering off up the moor, above the railway, then down again towards the station.

Climbing again, you will eventually descend some steps leading towards Darnholm, then back round the road to the car park at Goathland.

Attempted the walk on New Year's Day 2011. Melting snow made the 'beck' at way point 8 a raging torrent and impossible to cross.
