Start at Gosbecks Archaeological Park and soon enter Westlands Country Park, then after footpaths and a few roads you walk along the sunken track of Grymes Dyke to arrive at Stanway. After a few more roads and field-paths and passing through a quarry, you arrive at Colchester Zoo. If you spend a few hours here you can then continue the walk, passing Butchers Wood to arrive back at Gospecks P,ark where you can visit the sites of the Roman Temple and Theatre. There are notice-boards giving details of the temple and the theatre here. Then it's a short walk back to the car park at the start of the walk.
Also along the route you get a chance to visit Tollgate Retail Park with its numerous shops, also further along the route you pass Wyevale Garden Centre and a couple of restaurants. So plenty to do along the route and quite a few places for refreshments.
