Great Barnets Wood - Long Orchard - Howick - Cockshoot Wood - Great Barnets Wood

This walk explores some of the woodland in south-east Monmouthshire. The woods are mainly mixed and so support a variety of wildlife. They are particularly pretty in bluebell time or when the wild garlic (ramsons) covers the ground. The part of the walk across open farmland provides far-reaching views across the county.

WP10 Howick Farm, the path that is blocked is a permissive path and cannot be "unblocked" but the definitive footpath is still open but is not signed. These signs will be put in place immediately. This footpath follows the footpath marked on the map. The rape blocking the path between WP10 & WP11 is being cleared this week. Pat

I have followed walk 2952 today and there are problems. Between WP08 and WP09 the track is very over grown and it is difficult to see WP09. At WP10 the footpath through Howick Farm is obstructed by a heap of something covered with a tarpaulin and any way round is blocked by barbed wire. Between here and WP11 the path is round the edge of a field planted with rape. At the moment the rape is shoulder high and blocks the path for 400 metres. I am reporting all this to the local Rights of Way officer. I will let you know when the problems are sorted. Pat.
