Great Bentley is a charming village and boasts the largest village green in the country. It is crossed by a couple of roads but still manages to have a cricket pitch and plenty of space besides. There are some very desirable properties around the perimeter of the green and it is on the main railway line from London Liverpool Street to Clacton-on-Sea. This walk takes you via field paths to Frating Abbey, then via lanes and more field and woodland tracks and paths back to the village green, to follow its full length back to your start point at the railway station.

Have just done this walk - a nice little afternoon stroll. However time has obviously passed since it was originally submitted and the instructions for points 3, 4 and 5 need revision. Also the instruction in point 4 'Bear right for 30 yards by the embankment.....'should be at the beginning of point 5 instructions. Also the name of the property mentioned in point 12 is no longer Jubilee Cottage. It's a new, much grander building now - 'St Mary's Grange'!
