The walk is based on the Dog and Otter, a pub on the northern outskirts of Great Harwood and it starts by picking up very quickly a wooded footpath between houses that leads to farm tracks. A descent by a wood is made to Dean Clough which is crossed by its dam before a loop through fields to the north brings us back to the dam by a long track. A further track leads to a road from which the Dog and Otter is reached in a few minutes. Most of the walk is fairly high giving extensive views all round, but Pendle dominates the landscape. There are few stiles for a walk of this length.
