Great Torrington Common - Tarka Trail - Monkleigh - Frithelstock - Priestacott - Watergate Bridge Circular
Great Torrington is a busy market town and interesting through its history of involvement in the English Civil War and the Battle of Torrington in 1646. The Great Torrington and Castle Hill Commons are wonderful open spaces with great walks and marvellous views of the Torridge Valley, which is of course, Tarka Country. This walk takes you from the commons down to the Tarka Trail, then up through the quiet Devon villages of Monkleigh and Frithelstock, each with their pub which you can visit if you wish. You return to Torrington along the mineral line section of the Tarka Trail which goes beyond Torrington towards Petrockstowe.
