A figure-of-eight walk which takes in an ancient settlement and Captain Cook's Monument - not to mention great views of the Cleveland Hills, including Roseberry Topping. The walk can be split into two shorter circuits, making it ideal for young or old legs alike.
The first loop in the walk takes you onto Great Ayton Moor and has some ancient enclosures close to the cairn; in summer there was little to be seen.
The second loop passes through the Forestry Commission land to reach Captain Cook's monument. On a clear day the views south of the Cleveland Hills and north to Roseberry Topping are spectacular - especially given the little amount of climbing involved.
